Remembering Warm Apple Pie

It’s 8:00 PM.  You’re snuggled up on the couch, the TV is on, dinner is but a memory and you’re wanting just that little bit of nosh.  Some popcorn, maybe a dish of ice cream or maybe that last piece of cherry pie from Sunday at moms?  DON’T DO IT!!!!!

Have an apple instead.  Take an apple, wash really well, quarter and de-core.  Put the apple in a saucepan with just a little bit of water, sprinkle with cinnamon or just a little bit of nutmeg – DO NOT ADD SUGAR – cover pan with lid and cook for 5 minutes or so until the apple is soft.  Watch the apple until you get the hang of how much water and how long to cook the apple.  I’ve burnt many a pan so be careful.

Once the apple is soft, place it in a bowl and eat.  The apples likely pretty hot so be careful not to burn your mouth on it.  Close your eyes while chewing and it’s almost exactly like apple pie without the white flour crust.

I’d prefer you didn’t eat after dinner, but, if you must – whole foods, like an apple, are much better than the typical SAD (standard American diet) choices.  Apples are lower in sugar and come with their own fiber, which helps to keep the negative effects of the fruit sugar at a minimum.

Enjoy the mini apple pie, anytime during the day and after dinner, but only if you absolutely must have to can’t stop eating after dinner!
